Happy International Women's Day

Happy International Women’s Day! The IWD 2021 theme is #ChooseToChallenge.

In addition to celebrating women and challenging sexism today, we need to recognize the impact of racism on different groups of women. Black, Indigenous and racialized women have historically faced systemic barriers that have hindered their potential and access to opportunities. They are disproportionately represented in decision making and leadership platforms, entertainment, art and marketing industries and face higher rates of violence and death.

Today, BACupNorth will #ChooseToChallenge the people who uphold racist attitudes that keep Black, Indigenous and racialized women oppressed. We will #ChooseToChallenge the patriarchal systems and misogynistic attitudes that perpetuate gender disparities and biases. And we will #ChooseToChallenge anyone who hinders the women who tirelessly give their time and space to improve themselves, thier chosen families, communities, future generations and the world.
